pottery01Spiritual Formation is the process by which people are shaped by God's love and enabled to grow in their faith. We are spiritually formed through practices such as prayer, study, fasting, worship, and other disciplines.

There are several initiatives at Church of the Palms which focus on spiritual growth. We also provide resources and information about Spiritual Formation, both in our church and elsewhere.

If you are interested in forming or joining a small group or would like more information about spiritual formation at Church of the Palms, please contact John Baxter.

Small Group Opportunities

Since the early days of Christianity, and continuing with John Wesley, groups have been meeting for study, prayer, and spiritual growth. The Small Group program at Church of the Palms has typically involved over 40 adults; this ministry includes both evening and morning groups.

Small group topics range from traditional Bible study to application of our faith and values; the social interaction is an important component of this ministry, and enduring friendships are a product of these groups. The groups below are starting up this September. Please contact the facilitator of a particular group for more information.

If you have general questions about how or where you might want to get involved, please contact John Baxter.

A youth-oriented online resource, d365.org offers a daily meditation time.  Each session is divided into self-guided sections of:

  • Pause
  • Listen
  • Think
  • Pray
  • Go

d365 is a project of Passport, Inc. as student ministry initiative. See Pastor Pete for more information on this resource.

 Pray As You Go

Pray-as-you-go is a daily prayer session, designed for use on portable MP3 players, such as ipods, itouch, iPhone (among others) to help you pray while travelling to and from work, study, etc.

A new prayer session is produced every day, with sessions available a week at a time. These sessions are a simple 'Thought for the Day', a sermon or a detailed bible-study, but rather a framework for your own prayer. Lasting around twelve minutes in length, each session combines music, scripture and some questions for reflection. The aim is to help you to:

  • become more aware of God's presence in your life
  • listen to and reflect on God's word
  • grow in your relationship with God.

It is produced by Jesuit Media Initiatives, with material written by a number of British Jesuits and other experts in the spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola. Although the content is different every day, it keeps to the same basic format.  See Pastor Pete for more information on this resource.

Upper Room Devotional

altA favorite printed devotional with scripture and short readings for each day, the Upper Room Devotional is also available online. The Upper Room® is produced by the General Board of Discipleship. It is dedicated to supporting the spiritual formation of Christians seeking to know and experience God more fully.
