shortstories03sqStarting April 24, Sisters of the Night small group will begin a new study and invite any woman in the church who is looking for a night time group to join.

Short Storys by Jesus explores a fresh and timely interpretation of Jesus’ most popular teaching parables.

Jesus knew how to tell a story. He knew that in order to get his message across he needed to relate to the people who gathered to listen—first century Jews—who lived in a very different world than the one in which we live today.

In Short Stories by Jesus, author Amy-Jill Levine takes you back in time and explains how original audiences understood Jesus’ parables. You’ll learn how new interpretations of the parables continue to challenge and provoke contemporary readers two thousand years later.

The six-session DVD features Amy-Jill Levine offering a fresh, timely reinterpretation of Jesus’ narratives.

blooddrive01sqSave the date of May 30 for a blood donation drive here at Church of the Palms in support of Susan Scholer. While the date seems far off, donors must wait 56 days between donations, so some planning is required to be part of this great way to support Susan.

Susan has already received an estimated 28 units of blood and may need more, so we've set a goal of 45 units!! Our goal will cover her use and support others as well.

Watch for an interest sheet coming soon to help the Red Cross plan for this drive. Additional information will be available on the pre-registration system called "RapidPass" and the opportunity for those willing to give Power Reds (double red cells.)

" what you can, when you can, in a coordinated manner to the glory of God!"

crazytalk01sqFebruary 24
“Crazy Talk”
Luke 6:27-38
8:30 a.m. / 11 a.m.
Portia Foden, Guest Proclaimer

"This Sunday, February 24 our Gospel reading is the second part of Jesus' sermon on the Plain. Here Jesus goes beyond the "Golden Rule," to love one's neighbors and instructs us to love our enemies as well. We are asked to put aside our prejudices and assumptions and really listen to Jesus’ words as recorded in the Gospel according to Luke; noted as one of the most difficult passages in the Scripture.

These tough instructions from Jesus on how to live, love, give and even forgive differently on the surface seem totally unrealistic and unattainable, even crazy talk. Instructions which seem impossible for us who live in an age consumed with, endless litigation, self-seeking justice, equality, and fairness.

So come this Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. as we continue our journey through Luke and try to make sense of this crazy talk.

secondchance01sqSave your new and gently used shoes for our "Second Chance" shoe drive starting March 1.
