What a delight to be able to witness our very own Lowcountry Youth Wind Symphony make their debut performance in our red dressed Sanctuary on the afternoon of May 20.
With well over 150 in attendance, these students were able to rise to the challenging music selected and conducted by Don Jemella.
Most of these musicians have only been playing a few months and with less than a few dozen rehearsals sounded beautifully harmonious. The energy and enthusiasm of those playing could only be matched by that of our own choir prepared by our Director of Music, Norma Brown.
The excitement was palpable as we filled the sanctuary with grateful hearts and generous contributions. In memory of Mike Porter, we raised close to $3,000 for our Building Fund. And if that were not enough, more than $1500 was collected to assist Lowcountry Youth Wind Symphony, a non-profit 501(c)(3), with their many expenses.
Church of the Palms is truly blessed to have been brought these talented students, a passionate choir, dedicated leaders like Don Jemella and music partner Sherry Laffaldano, our own Norma Brown, and such great neighbors to share in this wonderful event.
